Media is known as the fourth pillar of democracy due to its important role in shaping public opinion. Today in this modern world, the role of media has been increasing day by day.Media has created awareness among people regarding their rights and duties. We can update ourselves just by going through the morning newspaper, getting each and every kind of news from every nook and corner of the world.Today, mass media is well established, wherein it is remarkable to see the All India Radio now 90% of the population, tv more than 80% and over 5600 newspapers, 150 puplications are published daily in over 100 languages.

There has been a worldwide growth of the print media even after the emegence of the electronic media.Moreover , there has been an increase in the circulation of newspapers around the world evev after the emergence of electronic media and internet.Our constitution also granted us the right to freedom of expresion which is magnifested, in free press in our country.If media identifies its responsibility and work sincerely and honestly , then it can serve as a great force in building the nation.

The media is considered as fourth pillar of democracy. It makes us aware of various activities from fields like politics, sports, economic social etc. It is also like a mirror which shows the bare truth and sometimes it may be harsh. However it plays a crucial role in shaping the public minds.

The media is also our window to other countries and is the chief agent of globalization. Because it is very powerful, it is also the responsibility of those people working in the media to use it carefully and wisely. If the broadcasters don't look closely at what they are airing on the TV, it could be a bad influence for children and us teenagers. We base most of our knowledge on government news updates, not experience (unless our parents are politicians). We are dependent on the media for what we know and how we relate to the world of politics.
