The actual name of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar is Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar. He is often referred to as B R Ambedkar. He was an economist, jurist, social reformer, and politician. Ambedkar was actively involved in fighting for women rights and social discrimination against untouchables.
He was one of the pioneers behind the formation of Indian constitution and a founding member of the Republic of India. Considered a Dalit or untouchable himself, he inspired the Dalit Buddhist movement. Ambedkar was posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna in 1990.

Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, also known as Babasaheb Ambedkar. Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar was born on 14 April, 1891 in a very poor and lower class family. Dr Ambedkar was very fond of reading. He was always good in his studies. He went to England and he became a barrister.
As he himself belonged to an oppressed or downtrodden class he was aware how the classes were tortured. After returning from England he started working for the upliftment of these classes. He started a movement to fight oppression and become self dependent. During that time well tanks and lakes were not allowed to be used by everybody. He led a Satyagraha demanding these to be freely used by everyone. The untouchables was the name given to the depressed classes by the upper classes. The untouchable one not allowed to enter in temples. Dr Ambedkar always fought for their rights and equality in the society.
Dr Ambedkar was the chairman of the committee of constituent assembly who drafted the constitution of independent India. He was free India’s first law minister . For his work, he was awarded with 'Bharat Ratna'.He died on December 6, 1956. His birthday is celebrated as a public holiday known as Ambedkar jayanti.
