                                Do We Really Need Crackers?

Burning crackers on festivals causes unprecedented air and noise pollution. In the name of celebrating the festivals people give excuses for this mass pollution drive. We must  celebrate festivals differently. Our cities have already become polluted to the maximum. Let’s not pollute them anymore! Cannot we celebrate festivals without crackers? Is it compulsory to fill our already polluted environment with more poison? Are we wise in doing so? Why do we precipitate the process of our own fall and sufferings? Bursting fire crackers has only disadvantages! Wastage of money, poisonous smoke, unbearable noise, fire accidents, garbage, litter, etc! And still we want to burst them!

Crackers often contain elements like copper, cadmium, sulphur, aluminium and barium to produce the vibrant colours once ignited. The harmful gases produced from the bursting of crackers, such as Nitrous Oxide, remains in the air for a long time if the city doesn't get enough rain or strong winds. Inhaling the fumes emitted by firecrackers increases the chances of asthma attack among patients. Heart patients and patients of chronic bronchitis and low immune system are at high risk too.

Let’s join hands to say no to crackers while celebrating festivals. Let’s not poison the air our children breathe. We have the responsibility of bequeathing a cleaner and healthier future. If we won’t ensure their safety and happiness, who else will?

Crackers give people a sense of celebration it seems. However, nothing could be further from the truth. Crackers cause an unprecedented level of pollution in varying forms: noise pollution, air pollution, and land pollution. Apart from the obvious environmental degradation, the use of crackers also results in numerous accidents and deaths on account of mishandling.

Crackers aren't the real way to celebrate. Music, dance, family gatherings, and foods might be better options to revel in the fun and frolic of our festivities. In our country where millions still struggle for their daily meals, the real happiness lies in celebrating with these souls rather than wasting money in crackers that disappear into fumes.
