WHAT DOES INDEPENDENCE MEAN TO ME?
This year on the 75th Republic Day, we will proudly hoist the tricolour yet again, remember the brave martyrs, dress up in tricolour and stay glued to our television sets to watch the parade. But amongst all these activities, do we ever wonder about the gift of Independence we got seven decades back? I have often pondered over this question and today on the eve of our republic day I decided to pen down my thoughts.
There are patriotic sentiments attached to this day for sure, but over the years, definitions adapt and evolve, which explains why being independent is now frequently associated with making your own way in the world.
To me, independence means freedom for people to express themselves—and to use that freedom to improve, learn, and experience everyday living. Independence should not be used as an excuse to seize power.
Independence for me is freedom. Freedom that satisfies your desire to become a stronger person and yet does not separate us from our values. It’s a sense of individuality that empowers us to speak our minds and free ourselves from ignorance.
For me, independence means living your life to the fullest! It’s to enjoy and do your best every single day of your life. It is about standing bold and strong.
For me, independence is pursuing a life of peaceful endeavors while being responsible for what we do. Yes independence brings with itself terrifying responsibility.
Independence means making my own choices and taking the responsibility consequences of those choices. It’s like your life is a painting and you have the option to pick out the colors and draw exactly what you want.
