The big bang theory is a cosmological model for the beginning of our universe. By this theory, we can trace back the existence of our universe to a point when it was extremely dense, homogeneous and hot, around 13.8 billion years ago, according to our measurements. The universe expanded from this point, aka the space expanded in itself, fluctuations took place, photons gave birth to particle antiparticle pair which annihilated, however somehow particles won over its antiparticles counterpart, quarks and leptons formed, quarks formed baryons, protons and neutrons, hydrogen and helium atoms, eventually leading to the formation of stars and all the stuff we see today, including ourselves. The space currently is still expanding, at a speed more than the speed of light, with an accelerated expansion.
