Arteries are blood vessels that form part of the circulatory system. The arteries are the blood vessels in the body that carry blood away from the heart.

All arteries carry oxygenated blood from the the heart except the pulmonary artery and the umbilical artery.

The main artery in the body is the aorta.

Functions of the arteries:

The arteries, apart from oxygen, also supply nutrients to the cells of the body.

The heart receives it supply of nutrients and oxygen from the coronary arteries.
