Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela was a South African anti-apartheid revolutionary, politician, and philanthropist, who served as President of South Africa from 1994 to 1999. He was the country's first black head of state and the first elected in a fully representative democratic election. His government focused on dismantling the legacy of apartheid by tackling institutionalised racism and fostering racial reconciliation. Ideologically an African nationalist and socialist, he served as President of the African National Congress (ANC) party from 1991 to 1997.

Nelson Mandela was the first Black president of South Africa. The mission which Mandela liked to achieve for the future of South Africa and her people was securing the political emancipation. He wanted to free his people from poverty, suffering, hardships, deprivation, gender and class discrimination. Also, on the day he became president he assured the people that no person in South Africa would undergo any of these oppression from that day onward.

Mandela calls himself “simply the sum of all those African patriots” who had gone before him. He gives the credit of him standing on that particular point because of them. He says that their sacrifices and courage had paved the way for him. Mandela becoming the president of South Africa is the result of the collective struggle against discrimination and injustice. He thanks them and wishes them to be alive to watch these.
