• Salanio was a companion of Salarino and a friend of the rich merchant of Venice, Antonio in the play, 'The Merchant of Venice ' written by William Shakespeare. In the opening scene of the play we witnessed the melancholic state of Antonio and how his friend Salarino and Salanio tries to console him. Salanio said that if he had his vessels in other countries he too would have been sad. He would continuously be tossing the grass to know the wind directions. He also said that he would peer into the maps to figure out the best port. Everything dangerous related to his vessel would make him sad.
