Sample Response: If the starting height of a sloped racetrack is increased, then the speed at which a toy car travels along the track will increase because the toy car will have a greater acceleration.

Answer:

Hypothesis about the effect of the racetrack's height on the speed of the car:

  • Let's take three racetracks
  • The length of each racetrack is 36 inches, i.e., 0.91 m.
  • The height of the first racetrack is 8 inches i.e., 0.2 m; the second racetrack is 16 inches i.e., 0.41 m and the third racetrack is 24 inches i.e., 0.61 m.
  • The time taken by the car for each lap on the first track is 7.8 seconds; on the second racetrack is 7.3 seconds, and on the third racetrack is 6.6 seconds.
  • Now you can see that less time is taken by the car on 24 inches, i.e., 0.61 m high racetrack. It shows that higher will be the track, faster will be the velocity and less will be time taken.
  • Because the velocity on slanted racetrack depends on the gravity and the other circumstances.

So the conclusion is that for higher velocity, height of the racetrack should be high.
