Subject: Making Yamuna clean through public participation
Sir:
I am writing this letter to express my deep concern over the problem of Yamuna’s never ending pollution. Dumping of effluents and sewage drains into our life-giving rivers, is turning into dumping channels and sewage drains. A place where rivers are dirty can never have healthy people. Unfortunately, our rivers which are the lifelines of the nation have become big sewage drains.
We must ensure there is no pollution of rivers by dumping any waste such as, sewage, effluents, and other toxic substances. These toxic substances finally intrude into our bodies and food and do the maximum damage. The people and the government must ensure installation of effluents treatment plants at industrial, garbage, and sewage units. By being the proactive stewards of this rare life-supporting element can we preserve and conserve it.
Clean, pure, sparkling rivers with abundant aquatic life reflect the cleanliness of the people who live on its banks. Their cleanliness is the indicator of the health level of the people inhabiting their banks. We must preserve our rivers because our own preservation is directly linked to their conservation. Making Yamuna again a clean and pure river is not possible without people’s mass participation. People must come forward and shoulder the responsibility.
I appeal to the people and the Government to look into the serious problem and take actions to preserve our rivers. Kindly give my views some space in your esteemed daily.
Yours truly,
Upen Sharma
