Dear Perry
I hope this letter finds you in a pleasant condition. Many thanks for your concern regarding Marcus. However, the naughty fellow was just fooling his poor old master! I call myself poor because this prank he played on us made my days difficult. Marcus pretended to be deaf all the time! When I called him for a walk, he’d be a perfect actor and just gaze at me like I was Statue of Liberty or something! But the time I called him for meals, he would hear perfectly!
I discovered his trick one day when I was in the kitchen, cutting meat to eat, and a tiny piece of it slipped and fell beside my feet! And lo, Marcus raced in and began to eat it whole! I suspiciously thought about this and finally connected all the dots: Marcus was just pretending to be deaf!
We decided to turn the tables on him. Although the plan was utterly unfair, I and my wife decided to stay silent and talk to each other only through actions and not words. Guess what?! The plan did go perfectly well. We didn’t call him for meals. I believe it was very unfair for him, but alas, it was the only solution.
Initially, Marcus was puzzled. But afterwards, he really started to worry because he had loved only one thing from the first place, that is, FOOD. Finally, we thought we had done enough, so we tested him by calling him for a walk. An expression of relief could be seen on his face then. He enthusiastically ran like a pony! He happily took the longest walks and I think, he would never, ever, ever pretend to be deaf again.
Do visit us during your holidays and we’ll spend time together with the naughty Marcus!
Yours lovingly
Caleb
