On Thursday, Hindus all over the world start celebrating their annual Diwali holidays for four days and then the New Year will follow on Nov. 4. Diwali holidays are known as "Festival of Lights" and are the most popular of all the festivals from South Asia.
In India, it is an occasion for celebration not only for Hindus but for the people of other religions as well. The Diwali is a celebration for the victory of good over evil, light of love over darkness of hatred, and wealth of knowledge over ignorance. The jungle of lights, fireworks and sweets makes this festival a favorite among children.
During these days houses, shops and public buildings and other places are decorated with thousands of electric lights and/or rows of traditional small earthenware oil lamps called DIYAS and candles. It is an unique, jubilant celebration.
