Subject: Safety of visitors in zoological park

Sir:

I write to your esteemed self to express my concern over the problem of poor safety of visitors at all the National Zoological Parks. The recent tragedy at the National Zoo in Delhi has shocked the entire nation. It has also brought the poor safety measures at zoos in case of an emergency.

Undoubtedly, the victim was in the wrong to have jumped into the enclosure attached to the tiger’s den; however, the zoo authorities’ inability to rescue the victim in time became quite visible. The tragedy has also brought forth the architectural and layout flaws of the zoo. Why was it not envisaged that the low fencing at the point where the visitor’s path overlooks the enclosure could result in a tragic accident? Why was the fence at that point not raised further?

From the video it was quite clear that the victim could have been saved if the recue team or guard had shot a tranquilizer at the tiger. There was no guard visible! I on behalf of all the citizens appeal to you to look into the matter and introduce prompt emergency safety measures at the zoos all across the nation. Thanking you.

Yours truly,

Himanshu Tyagi
