Answer:

Sir: I write this letter to express my anguish and annoyance over the problem of loud speakers during the examination days. ... During the day the loud noise from speakers does not disturb and distract as much as it does at night. Especially at the weekends the nose from the loudspeakers is just unbearable.

The Editor,

The Hills News Time,

Kohima City.

Subject: The insensitive use of loudspeakers and sound systems.

Sir,

Through the columns of your esteemed daily national newspaper, I would like to highlight the nuisance caused by the irresponsible use of loudspeakers during festivals.

Festivals are a part of our religious, and social life. The problem is not a celebration of festivals, but how they are celebrated. Most of the popular festivals in India are celebrated using loudspeakers to play music at high volume throughout the day and night. In some bars music are played at full volumes throughout the night in the name of celebration of birthdays.

This practice by religious organizations and bar owners is a public nuisance and a major cause of noise pollution. Noise pollution is known to cause headaches, anxiety, hearing loss, irritation, and other health problems. We must sympathize with the sick and elderly people and also infant babies and children who need to rest and sleep properly.

The irresponsible use of loudspeakers and music system interferes with students who ae studying for exams or doing their homeworks and projects. It disturbs those preparing for competitive exam or for job interviews. The use of loudspeakers should be banned in residential areas. The bars and restaurants should not be allowed to play music at high volume during night time.

Our law enforcement authorities should take up this issue at the earliest in the interest of the general public.

Yours sincerely

MARK ANTHONY
