Subject: Rising Levels of Pollution In Delhi

Sir,

With deep concern, I write to you in order to highlight the grave issue of exponentially increasing pollution levels in Delhi. The number of owners of two and four wheelers is increasing rapidly, and along with it, the use of diesel or petrol powered vehicles. This is one of the most significant reasons of deteriorating air quality in the city. Not only this, but due to the improper maintenance of the sewage system, large amounts of garbage can often be found burning on every turn of the streets. This too contributes towards the increasing pollution levels. There is a very large number of patients suffering from asthama and lung cancer in the city, and this number is increasing everyday. The cause of this increase in lung diseases can be attributed to quality of air we breathe. School going children are severely impacted by the air and have become exposed to several hazards.

I request the concerned authorities to initiate afforestation drives in the city and even the rest of the country, and to financially support the NGOs working to improve the quality of environment we live in. Also, the department of sewage treatment is requested to adopt environment-friendly methods of disposing the garbage, to reduce the pollution caused by burning it.

I hope my appeal is gratified and the request is fulfilled soon.

Yours faithfully
