Subject: Contamination of water in Ganga

Sir:

I am writing to your highness to bring to your notice the contamination of water in Ganga. The Ganges is the most significant river in India. It flows unpolluted only upto Rishikesh. As soon as it enters plains, passes through cities, towns, and villages, people use it as dumping channel as a result of which it assumes the form of a colossal sewage channel.

As a concerned and responsible citizen, I feel conscience-stricken as Ganga water gets exceedingly polluted when it flows through Ballia. Industries located on its banks dump millions of tons of liquid and solid waste into it in the form of toxic effluents into it.

Though Indian Government has launched many projects to reclaim the beauty and purity of river through programmes such as Clean Ganga Mission, the desired objectives have not been achieved. The basic cause underlying the pollution of the river is the people’s attitude. People along with the Government must shoulder the responsibility of maintaining cleanliness in the river.

People and Government must ensure there is no pollution of rivers by dumping any waste such as, sewage, effluents, and other toxic substances. Installation of effluents treatment plants at industrial, garbage, and sewage units is a must to make Ganges clean! Only by being the proactive stewards of this rare life-supporting element can we preserve and conserve it.

I appeal to your considerate self to take initiative in preserving Ganga. Industries that are polluting Ganga must be penalized. I hope your highness will look into the matter and take prompt measures.

Thanking you.

Yours faithfully,

Upen Bhardwaj
