Subject: Mushrooming coaching centers and increasing dependence of students on them
Sir,
I write to your esteemed self to express my deep concern over the mushrooming of coaching centers and the consequent increasing dependence of students on them. I just wonder what has happened to the young generation. They want everything readymade served to them! They perhaps don’t know knowledge and skills cannot be bought readymade. One has to really work very hard for their acquisition.
Malcolm X has rightly said, “Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.” And everyone seems to grab this passport by hook or crook—by crook in most of the cases. In their competitiveness, they are distorting the means to the end. However, they forget education is a slow, gradual process. It can never be had by artificial methods.
The craze of joining coaching centers is becoming quite widespread. Seeing this craze among the youngsters, many new coaching centers are opening up. The bitter reality is that most of these centers don’t have competent teachers. The pace of the syllabus completion is quite fast. Some students find it really difficult to cope up with this speed.
These coaching centers can familiarize the students with the formats of exams; however, as far as knowledge acquisition is concerned, that does not happen in the crowded rooms of such centers.
Through the columns of your esteemed daily, I appeal to the parents and the concerned authorities and ministry to look into the problem seriously. Our children are the future of our nation. We cannot allow the future to be dark and unpromising. Strict rules and regulations concerning the standards for coaching centers must be implemented. The parents and teachers must encourage the students to gain knowledge and excellence through self-study. I hope you will give space to my views in the columns of your reputed daily. Thanking you.
Yours truly,
