Dear Sir,
Please permit me to point out the hazards of reckless driving on city road. I shall feel grateful if you publish my views in the column of your esteemed newspaper.
Rash driving has become the order of the day. So many accidents take place every day on the city roads. Drivers play with the lives of children and old men. Young boys feel the thrill of speed. They do not observe traffic rules. They take pride in overtaking other vehicles and going against light at the crossing. All this results in fatal accidents. The law-abiding citizens are caught in this peril.
Traffic jam is yet another hazard. It is often seen that heavy vehicles are parked in the area of “no entry”. This cause traffic jams. Tangas and three-wheeler make thihgs worse in such an area. The policeman on duty remains a silent spectator. Drunken truck drivers play havoc with the lives of innocent people. It is a pity that such people escape and are not caught. Even if they are caught on the spot, they are let off with a minor punishment. They also bribe the policemen and go scot-free.
Traffic rules must be observed. Under-aged drivers and those driving without license should be punished. The drivers found driving in a drunken state should be dealt with sternly. Roads should be kept cleared of tangas, richkshaws and hand-carts. Speed breakers, roundabout and traffic light should be set up where necessary.
I request the authorities through these column to enforce the rule of the road and educate the people about traffic rules.
Thanking you,
Yours faithfully,
Mohinder Pratap.
