Build desalination plants
Dear Editor:
It has been said that we had three years of drought to prepare and blew it. That is true, but instead of holding this governor and legislature accountable for not funding new sources of water, you come down on their side that we all need to conserve more and if not, be fined.
You recently published “From Mountain Top to Water Tap,” which told an interesting story, especially the fact that the average Californian uses 196 gallons of water per day. The latest estimate of California’s population is 38.3 million people.
The state could easily provide enough water for about 36 million Californians if the money they are throwing away with the high-speed rail and twin tunnels boondoggles would be spent on desalination plants. That means this state could survive a 12 months lack of rain if it had the 137 desalination plants that these two projects are costing.

Subject: Low quantity and irregular supply of water
Respected Sir,
Through the columns of your esteemed daily newspaper, I woul like to highlight the problem of water scarcity in this locality.
For the last three weeks Bhulabai Desai Road locality is receiving very low quantity and irregular supply of water which is not enough for our daily basic needs like cooking and drinking. The few wells available in the area has dred up as they are not enough to meet the demand of so many people. The residents here are being compelled to buy water at exorbitant rates.
Therefore, I earnestly request the concerned department and the authorities to look into the scarcity of water and restore immediate regular supply of water since the people of this locality are facing much hardship and difficulties.
Yours sincerely,
SUNITA RAO
