Subject: Increasing parental pressure on students
Sir:
I am writing this letter to express my deep concern over the serious problem of increasing parental pressure on students. It has been researched that parents interfere too much with the students. They impose their aspirations on them. The recent COVID-19 pandemic lockdown and changes in the examination pattern have further added to this pressure.
Academic deadlines, tests, expectations of the parents and teachers, lack of counseling facilities, fast pace of the current life, materialism, TV, internet, etc. have added to the burden of stress on their delicate shoulders. Prolonged pressure can cause serious physical, mental, emotional, and behavioral complications. Headache, insomnia, indigestion, poor concentration, frequent negative thoughts, anxiety, depression, relationship troubles, driving recklessly, drug or alcohol abuse, aggression are a few of them.
I believe each student should be given freedom to pursue career of his/her own choice. The Government, educationists, and elders must look into the issue and devise policies and strategies to help students deal with this pressure. The students must also be educated and made aware about stress management through techniques such as positive attitude, deep breathing, self-help books, mediation, etc. Kindly publish my views in your esteemed daily to sensitize people about stress. Thanking you.
Yours truly,
Manav
