Subject: Computers versus books in the current and future educational scenario
Dear Sir:
I write to your good self to express my views on comparison between books and computers in the current educational scenario. I strongly feel computers and internet are making books obsolete. Computers have become ubiquitous owing to their versatility. What is it not that you can't do with a computer? They are the gods of the modern era! Naturally the field of education has also been influenced positively by use of computers. They have made the learning in classrooms much more convenient, easier, simpler, colouful, fun-filled, and efficient. Expert teachers teach students using smart boards and interactive whiteboards. Computers have enabled both students and teachers to process learning data many times faster than was possible in a traditional classroom. And traditional teaching and learning was all books based.
There are already online courses available. Admission, teaching, assignments, attendance, testing, evaluation, results, etc, everything connected to education is being provided online. There are already e-libraries existent! I can't say whether there will be android teachers or not; but computers are already assisting teachers in the classrooms. If you look at the transformation, you can see its nascent signs already existing. School websites, teachers and students user ids issued by schools; smart classes, students submitting their assignments, projects to their teachers and professors online, etc, all are signs of the coming change.
Books will always have their relevance; but soft-books or e-books will be more relevant. Rather they have already become more relevant. Everywhere we are accepting e-bills, e-receipts, e-tickets, e-confirmation, e-bookings, etc. Soon we will get used to e-books also. Through the columns of your esteemed daily, I appeal to people to adopt and adapt to this transformation taking place in the educational world and take the maximum benefits out of it. Thanking you.
Yours truly,
Gibran
