Subject: Noice pollution, effects of noice pollution and prevention.

Sir,

Through the columns of your esteemed national newspaper, I would like to express my concern on the increasing noice pollution especially in our cities and towns and industrialised areas. Noise pollution causes different adverse effects on the physical and mental well-being of the the people.

Noise Pollution

Noise pollution means any unwanted or excessive sound that can have deleterious effects on human health and environmental quality. Noise pollution, also known as environmental noise, is commonly generated inside many industrial facilities and some other workplaces, but it also comes from highway, railway, and airplane traffic and from outdoor construction activities. Noise pollution or sound pollution, is the propagation of noise with harmful impact on the activity of human or animal life. The source of outdoor noise worldwide is mainly caused by machines, transport, and propagation systems.

Negative Effects:

Unwanted sound (noise) can damage physiological health. Noise pollution can cause hypertension, high stress levels, tinnitus, hearing loss, sleep disturbances, and other harmful and disturbing effects. Noise is any disturbing or unwanted sound, and noise pollution affects people's health and quality of life. Prolonged high levels of noise can cause hearing loss and stress-related illnesses. Noise often affects children more than adults, and noise pollution also affects general well-being.

Control Measures:

We can Reduce Noise pollution by turning off appliances when not in use, use of earplugs, lowering the volumes of sound systems, planting more trees as they absorb noise, regular maintenance of vehicles and machines etc. Industries producing noise and air pollution must be shifted to unpopulated areas.

By controlling noise we can reduce negative health effects that noise pollution has on everyone.

The Editor,

The Times of India,

New Delhi-110 001.

Sir,

I would like to draw the kind attention of the concerned authorities towards increasing problem of noise pollution. It is causing great damage to the health problem of the city. It leads to irritation, loss of sleep, rest and peace. It is harmful to physical and mental health of people. Frequent loud noise affects the working efficiency of the people. Persistent noise pollution causes a loss of sense of hearing.

Increasing noise pollution is a big threat to the health and fitness of the people, if the noise pollution is allowed to go unchecked it may rob the people of their hearing capacity, creasing number of vehicles on the roads, rising growth of factories, construction work, loudspeakers used on various occasions, rock and pop music, etc. are various factors responsible for causing noise pollution. Noise control laws are openly violated.

It is the time that the authorities should awake against the danger of noise pollution. They should strictly enforce the noise control laws. The noise producing factories located in the residential areas should be shifted to far-off places without any delay. The use of loudspeaker should be stopped after specific time. Above all, public needs to be aware and cooperative against the danger of noise pollution because without public cooperation authorities cannot make much difference.

It is earnestly hoped that concerned authorities will take immediate and urgent necessary action against those responsible for noise pollution to relieve the people from the harmful effects of noise pollution.

Thanking you,

Yours faithfully,

Akshya Tiwary.
