Sir,
The lockdown imposed by the central government is about to end as the unlock 2.0 has started. Nationwide lockdowns was imposed to break the chain of coronavirus spread. The decision was taken so abruptly that it caused more harm than benefits to the lower section of society. It stopped their earning opportunities and due to lack of sufficient savings the labourers and migrant workers were forced to leave for their villages. Thousands of them died on their way due to exhaustion.
While the central government announced that they have suffcient rations to take care of them for three months, ground reality was different as the poor were not getting sufficient food and complained that that authorities were not helping them.
It was different for the upper sections of the society, for them it meant staying at home, trying new dishes and entertaining themselves.
Poor and migrant labourers were the worst affect as the news and data published in The Hindu clearly stated that the lockdown was a failure.
The government kept on making bogus claims about breaking the corona cycle and slowing down the spread. It couldn't even arrange suffcient no of beds and treatment facilities, nor was it able to carry out significant number of covid tests, the number of tests conducted was so low that even the countries 20 times smaller than india carried out more number of tests.
All in all the lockdown was a complete failure and it shows that how ill prepared the Indian government was. to deal with nationwide medical emergencies.
Thanking you
Yours truly
