Sir,

It is a matter of concern that recently there has been a sudden spurt (Wf ) in the number of injuries and deaths caused by reckless driving of buses and minibuses in the road of Kolkata. These accidents mostly occur when the drivers and conductors of buses try overtake other buses on the same route to pick up extra passengers to increase the sale of tickets. They recklessly ply (51 ) their vehicle even along crowded roads, totally unmindful about the safety of pedestrians or passengers boarding or getting down from them. Many think that the system of paying commission to the drivers on the amount of sales is responsible

for such reckless driving on their part. If this is true, a proper structure of salary for drivers and conductors of the buses and minibuses may help reducing the cases of accidents caused by

such reckless driving.
