Write a letter to the editor of newspaper about the plastic bags a environment globally or problem

A recent letter writer states that it takes effort to return plastic bags to the grocer’s recycling containers and claims that the downside of eliminating plastic bags is that he won’t have anything to use to clean up behind his dog.
A lot of people don’t return their plastic bags. So clearly, not offering them in the first place is a more effective way to prevent said bags from ending up in landfills or on the beach and in our waterways.
Dog owners have several much greener options than using grocery bags. Pet stores sell compostable bags for picking up after dogs. Yes, they are somewhat pricey, but if more people were to buy them, prices would likely fall.
Another alternative is using feminine hygiene paper bags (can be ordered in large quantities). They’re cheaper, but they also take longer to decompose than compostable bags.
While we all seem to agree that taking care of the environment requires effort and education, I’d like to take it a step further and say that it also takes the willingness and commitment to find alternatives for our general usage of plastic.
Bottom line is that there is no need for grocery plastic bags.
