Digital India’ campaign by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. These groups see every act of the Modi government with the colored glasses of their perceived Hindu phobia. They have to understand that true secular governance is possible by an administration with the least communal agenda.
As Salman Rushdie in a recent talk show implied that Hindus with a large majority can be above communal politics, the present government has been acting with complete secular propriety. Besides, secularism is an integral part of Hinduism which is evident considering thousands of years of Indian history. One wonders if nearly all Islamic countries and majority of Christian nations are so secular.
When there are ugly communal incidents for which some fringe elements in either majority and minority populations are responsible, it is a matter of law and order and are being dealt with as such by the state governments and the judiciary. Why would the government jeopardize its legitimate governance by shielding these elements and gamble away an internationally transparent program like ‘Digital India? Intellectual groups like university academics ought to know that such allegations would only damage their own prestige.
It is time to put an end to the continuation of hounding an honorable leader with politically motivated baseless accusations in the interest of the progress of poor people in India
