Subject: Health hazards caused by watching TV and playing video games for long hours.
Dear Sir:
I write to your good self to express my concern over the problem of increasing TV and video games addiction among the children. I am just shocked at statics published by Parents Television Council, an organization that promotes and advocates responsible entertainment. According to the statistics published by this organization the average eight year old child spends eight hours a day on media. A teen typically more than 11 hours of media a day the average eight year old child spends eight hours a day on media. A teenager typically spends more than 11 hours of media a day. Similarly, number of families possessing video games has also gone up considerably. According to the statistics published 97% of teenagers between the age group 12-17 play computer, web, portable, or console games.
The figures shown in the statistics don’t augur well either for the health of the children. Excessive TV watching and playing video games affects their, physical, mental, emotional, and social health. Weak eyesight, obesity, aggression, stress, weak academics, poor concentration in studies, etc are the common fallouts of too much TV watching and video games.
Through the medium of your newspaper I appeal to parents, teachers and the concerned authorities to look into the matter and make and implement strategies to wean children off TV watching and video games. I hope you will give enough space to my views in your esteemed newspaper.
Yours truly,
