Subject: Irresponsible reckless driving
Sir,
It was heart wrenching to read about the road accident as reported by your esteemed newspaper the other day. Two young students lost their life to yet another road accident involving two minibuses.
The report is similiar to the frequent news reports of road accidents caused by reckless drivers of minibuses.
The roads of Jaipur will never be safe until something is done to stop reckless driving. The traffic personnels must step up to end the rash driving of minibuses. But I think it is unreasonable to put the whole onus on our traffic personnels. Each driver must understand that the life of the passengers as well as others on the roads are in their hands. Safety must always come first.
Having a driving license is not an entitlement to drive on public roads as one please. A person may own a vehicle or drive a vehicle. But he is not the owner of the roads. We need sensible and responsible minibus drivers.
We observe Road Safety Week every year. I suggest that a seminar on road safety be conducted during that week and make it mandatory for minibus drivers to attend it. The driving licenses of those who failed to attend must be revoked. Let us strive to keep our famous Pink City safe.
