Subject: Bad
condition of roads
Sir:
I write to your
good self to express my concern over the bad condition of roads due to which
many accidents take place every year. A poor condition of roads is one of the
major causes of road accidents in India. According to data issued on road
accidents by Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the total number of road
accidents increased by 2.5 per cent from 4,89,400 in 2014 to 5,01,423 in 2015.
The total number of persons killed in road accidents increased by 4.6 per cent
from 1,39,671 in 2014 to 1,46,133 in 2015. Though not all accidents are caused
by poor roads, however, poor roads play quite a significant role in these
accidents.
This problem of
poor roads is quite widespread in the nation. Especially during and after the
monsoons the roads are badly damaged. In the cities, the drains get damaged.
The coverings of the manholes are dislodged. Quite frequently these broken
drains and uncovered manholes become the causes of the accidents.
These accidents
can be stopped by making quality roads and timely repair of the broken roads,
poor drainage system and ramshackle conditions of roads. The departments
responsible for the maintenance of roads should act proactively and ensure road
safety. Through the medium of your esteemed newspaper I appeal to the concerned
authorities at the state and central government to look into the matter and
take prompt action to address the problem. Thanking you.
Yours truly,
Sunil Sinha
