dear sir
subject ideas on new india
India is a country where people of diffrent caste religion and gender live together . In thiss type of democratic country new ideas should be encouraged gorvment . our country lacks
cleanliness
The old saying “Cleanliness is next to godliness” is hardly audible to Indian ears. Indians although conscious about personal hygiene but they are unwilling to join the force when it comes to collective cleanliness. The cleanliness in India is a big problem.
The major reasons are:
Orthodoxy still prevails in India. Some people think that having toilets at home is unholy! These people hold close allegiance to the Ancient caste systems of India and consider the handling of the human waste is an act of lower castes.
The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) which is carried out to predict any adverse impact of industries on the environment is not strictly followed. If done, implementation and monitoring is a big cry. The industrial houses dump the waste in the rivers and water bodies.
In general, there is a lack of awareness about the adverse effect of the unclean environment. The huge population in cities finds dwellings in unclean areas. That’s the reason that the slums in the cities are emerging as hotspots of epidemics.
Some of the underprivileged and poor people don’t have money to buy bread and butter on day to day basis. It’s difficult for them to built individual toilets. And if these people get money to built toilets from the government, they divert it to other causes.
Indian mentality is something different. That’s not my problem! attitude is very common. The use and throw culture are very widespread. People are lacking social accountability, and thus, they litter in public places.
Corruption is indirectly related to this problem. There are several instances that the built-in toilets have been used for different purposes like shops, storing grains and so on.
This has to change soon. The lack of cleanliness not only add to the burden of diseases but also vandalizes the dignity of an individual. It is everybody’s Right to Clean Environment. We, the people of India has to take a stand. We have to change.
What has to be done?
The government of India has launched Swachchha Bharat Abhiyaan. Indians have to cooperate with this program not just for sake of taking photographs and sharing it on social media but to contribute towards cleanliness drive so that the objectives of the program can be achieved.
There should be strict adherence to the process of EIA. The consent of the citizens must be taken into consideration while setting up industries nearby human settlements. The similar process of Social Impact Assessment needs to encouraged industries to go through to get a license and people should be empowered to make decisions.
On Quora, I came across one innovative solution. The writer suggested, Indians like everything free! It would be good, if say, Parle-G implements scheme saying if someone returns 20–25 empty packets then he/she can claim one packet for free! Isn’t it good?
Remember, we live in the nation of Mahatma Gandhi, the ardent supporter of cleanliness. We have to make a change for good.
Remember the quote by Toni Cade, “Revolution starts from the self, in the self.”
So, let’s revolutionize the cleanliness in India.
