Subject: The problem of rising environmental  pollution

Dear Editor

I am Nidhi Agarwal a resident of Navyug society and have been running an NGO for the last 15 years. I am writing this letter to express my concerns of the rising pollution in our country along with my views about the necessity for environmental awareness.

The greatest obstacle posed by modern man is environmental pollution. When a individual does not have the most simple need of life, i.e. fresh and pure air, all advancement is pointless. This duty to man may only be provided through trees. Unfortunately man has so far lost his own benefactors through his ignorance. At some point 50% of the Indian land was protected by forests.

But man has limited it to just 8% now through his covetousness. Only recently did our government understand the importance of this problem. Several measures to maintain the environment clear of pollution have been taken. Forestation gets further focus. Unauthorized tree felling is being tracked. Scientists are creating strategies for reducing the pollution effects from our vehicles and chimneys.

Environmental awareness is also a social requirement. This is not only the government's job to help maintain the environment free from pollution but indeed a moral duty for everyone. It is not only a service to oneself, but to mankind as a whole.

Yours Sincerely

Nidhi Agarwal
