Subject: Inadequate drainage system.
Through your esteemed newspaper, I would like to draw the attention of concerned authorities towards the issue of poor drainage system in our city.
It is very saddening to see the poor conditions of street due to indiscipline of municipal staff. Streets are not swept regularly, and piles of garbage can be seen in many places in the city. These piles have become unconventional dump yards which cause great inconvenience to locals due to bad odors that arise from them and also hamper the beauty of the city thus affecting tourism in the city. Flies have become a substantial problem due to these piles, risking lives of local people due various vector-borne diseases.
Due to improper management and cleaning of the streets, garbage gets accumulated in the drain. Thus, blocking them which further aggravate the problem. Drain water overflowing from the gutters is a common sight, resulting in accumulation of water at various points on roads. This not only affect the roads adversely but also create difficulties for the pedestrians while going from one place to other.
These pools of water have become the breeding grounds for mosquitoes, which has worsened the situation. Currently, city is facing dengue outbreak due to same reason and people have already lost their precious lives. If these conditions continue there are further risk to lives of local from other water and vector-borne diseases such Malaria, Cholera etc. As there are chances of mixing of clean water with drainage such indiscipline and carelessness.
So, through your newspaper I would like to make a request to concerned municipal authorities to take appropriate actions to elevate such grim conditions. Hoping to get prompt and positive responsive in this regard.
