Sir/Madam ,
This letter is to draw your attention to the utterly pitiable condition of the city's slums. I, Ravi, a social worker, recently went to check on the conditions of the slum-dwellers and was tormented by what lay before me. there are no basic facilities provided to the slum-dwellers even till now despite several promises by the government.
The water pipes have still not been laid and the work has been left half-done. The pipes are rusting and are no longer usable and now are a major source of septic if come in contact with.
The mud paths are full of puddles and dirty water making them breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
Sanitation is very low and though there are 4 mobile toilets provided by the government, they are in pitiable conditions because of lack of maintenance. Moreover, they are disproportionate to the large number of slum-dwellers.
Drinking water still seems a distant dream and most of the people here draw water from the only and already depleting water-pump or the polluted river. This has given rise to many diseases in the slum and for some of the dwellers it has been fatal.
No medical visit is made to the slum either by the government or the NGOs.
They are our fellow city dwellers and the least that could be done is to provide them with basic facilities and sanitation campaigns.
Please bring to the fore these facts that might help shake the government and the NGOs out of their slumber.
Thank you
Yours sincerely
