Dear Sir,
As an active member of the youth wing of the SPCA, I wish to protest, through the pages of your esteemed newspaper, against the cruelty to animals. Recently I have had the misfortune of witnessing a most-over-burdened bullock-cart on the road. Such was the weight of the burden that the poor bull found it impossible to move. The bull was being mercilessly whipped so that he could exert more force and pull the cart.
This inhuman behavior is visible even while making the animals perform for amusement or while caging them for exhibitions.
I would like to point out that it is improper and wrong on our part to be cruel and inhumane in our treatment to animals. We should look for effective ways and means to rectify our folly. Even if each one of us pledges to perform an act of kindness towards animals every day, our attitude towards all those animals that work for us every day will be bound to change for better.
Thanking you
Yours sincerely

Subject: Flagrant Cruelty against Animals
Sir:
Through the columns of your esteemed newspaper, I want to express my deep anguish over the flagrant cruelty against animals in our society. They are not only used as beasts of burden mercilessly, but also tortured in many ways. I became very upset when last week I saw an outrageous beating of a horse by its owner on the road. The condition of other animals is equally deplorable. Every other day we can see the mangled bodies of dogs, cats, buffalos, mules, etc. on the roads.
These poor animals don’t have any habitats left unto them because of man’s urbanization. They are forced to live among men; but they are not being treated respectfully by man. The other day I was reading an article on internet. I came to know that cruelty against animals is illegal in our country! According to the Constitution of India: “It is the fundamental duty of every citizen of India to have compassion for all living creatures. Article 51A (g).” There is another law that says, “To kill or maim any animal, including stray animals, is a punishable offence. IPC Sections 428 and 429.”
Through the columns of your reputed daily, I appeal to the people, the Animal Welfare Societies, and the concerned Ministry and government authorities to remind people the principle of ‘Live and let others live’ and to work concertedly to stop this cruelty against animals. After all they are our fellow partners in existence. It is our responsibility to look after them. I hope you will help me in sensitize the people as well as the concerned authorities.
Thanking you,
Yours truly,
Raja
