Explanation:
Dear Prime Minister,
The efforts put towards keeping our country clean with the Swachh Bharath Abhiyan is really commendable. It has created a massive awareness among people from every section of society. And I see some real efforts to keep the cities and villages clean. The additional 0.5% cess on services is a welcome decision as it provides financial support for the initiatives to keep our country cleaner.
In this regard, I would like to draw your attention towards one of the basic sanitary requirements - Public Toilets to keep our cities and villages. clean. I am sure that you already have this in your agenda, however thought of bringing it to your notice.
Even though we have advanced in the technology and modernization is at the peak, we still lack the basic sanitary facilities in public places. We struggle to find a public toilet, when we are out of house. Most of the places we do not have or they are locked. Even if one finds there is no ownership to keep the toilet clean. The charge that is collected to use the toilet is no less than Rs.5. This is one of the key reasons behind dirtier public places like bus stops, railway stations, city markets, foot paths as people don't have an alternative.
I live in Bangalore, which is known as Silicon Valley of India, a major hub for information technology companies. However if one goes out of house, will struggle to find a toilet in public places. There are lakhs of people moving around in the city for their daily living. Places like Mejistic, K R Market, Shivaji Nagar, Indiranagar, M.G. Road, Yeswantpur, Madiwala are the most crowded ones. Although we have public toilets in some places, they are so dirty that people do not feel like using them and more over there is a charge. for usage. It is not that the people are unwilling to keep the city clean but they do not have an option. The most affected with this are the ladies and old people. I myself have straggled a lot from this when I am out of my house. I had to search for a restaurant which has a rest room and have tea or snacks for the sake of availing toilet facilities. This is an expensive/time consuming option which most of the people cannot afford.
If the public toilets are available in usable conditions without any charges, people will be encouraged to use it, making the public place cleaner. Now the Government has formal funding from 0.5% cess on Services for Swachh Bharat, I would humbly request you to include "Public Sanitary Facilities for Cleaner India" as one of the initiatives. I hope to see atleast a few clean toilets in bus stops, railway stations, markets and other crowded places to make our cities and villages cleaner.
I am writing this to you as I am a true admirer of your leadership, functioning and development agenda. I truly believe that your tireless efforts will make India a great place to live.
Thank You
Yours Truly, Sowmya K. Prabhu Bangalore
