To whom it may concern,
My name is _________________ and I live in __________________. I am currently in the
_______ grade and I attend ____________________ School. I am writing you today because I
learned about changes that might be made to the Endangered Species Act. The endangered
species act is one of the most effective conservation laws in the United States. The ESA has
protected 99% of listed species from extinction, including iconic species such as the American
bald eagle. The law is also widely popular. Research shows that 90% of voters, across political
groups, support the law. The proposed changes will weaken the law and put thousands of plant
and animal species at risk.
If the proposed changes go into effect, many more species will change from threatened to
endangered, requiring more intervention from the government. Protection for threatened
species needs to be maintained, both for species already listed and those not yet listed. I do not
want to see more extinctions in my lifetime.
I urge you NOT to move forward these proposed changes and leave the regulations to one of
our most effective and popular conservation laws untouched.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
