A2A Dear Sir,

I would like your permission to ride the school bus for a week while my foot heals from a sprain.

Thank you (Then sign your name.) I don’t know your reason. Have a reason that would be reasonable. I used while my foot heals from a sprain as an example.

I am a retired teacher and received such notes asking that the child stay in from recess because of a sprained ankle, etc. It depends on the age of the child. Some schools allow the student to write the note and the parent sign the note. In Minnesota a student can not sign themselves out of school until they are 16 years old.

It sounds like you are the student. If you are under 16, a parent or guardian needs to be the person writing the note. Another way is to have your doctor write the note.

The principal usually went out to talk to the driver of the bus with the child and explained the situation and told the bus driver that only on good behavior would the student ride the bus. The child was right there and understood the arrangement.
