Dear Nandan,
Hope you are doing well and staying safe at your hostel. I believe you are taking safety precautions as per the guidelines of WHO.
I am writing this letter to explain the importance of social distancing and washing your hands regularly.
Irrespective of being a science student, you should be knowing that lipid bilayer of the cell can be dissolved by alcohol or fatty acids. Detergents made of a long chain of fatty acids tear apart the covering of virus exposing it to degrading enzymes. Thus, killing the virus.
The virus can live on surfaces for a number of days, and hence any surface you touch can be contaminated. This explains regular use of hand wash or sanitizer.
Social distancing holds importance as contact by any person, who unknowingly can be a carrier of the disease, can infect you. Therefore, avoiding contact with those people will increase your chances of safety.
Masks also are important, because of the fact, that sneezing of an infected person without a mask can make you more prone to infection.
I hope you now understand the logic and importance of precautionary guidelines and you will remember to follow them particularly.
