Dear cousin,

I hope that you are in the best of your health. I wish the same for Uncle and Aunty. I got your last letter yesterday and I’m happy to know that everything is going well.

My school had organised a tour to visit an animal shelter this Monday to show us the value of sympathy and a way to help those poor animals who cannot even speak for themselves. We came across many rescued animals, some that were being healed and some which were up for adoption. Most of the animals that we came across were stray dogs. It made me feel very sad from inside that all of them didn’t have a home. Though they were being cared for properly I still thought that they should be adopted into a loving family. We were given the opportunity by the staff to feed some of the rabbits and dogs. We all watched happily as the rabbi gobbled down the salads and dogs munched on the pieces of roti and bread. We then played with the animals and some of us went to help the staff members with various jobs here and there. The visit was a success and we all left with smiles on our faces and a new lesson of sympathy and kindness was learned by each and everyone of us. I can’t wait for your visit next month. We can both go to the animal shelter for some social service too.

Waiting for your next letter. Convey my warm regards to Uncle and Aunty and my love to your younger brother.

Yours truly,

Abc

Answer:

Explanation:

An animal shelter or pound is a place where stray, lost, abandoned or surrendered animals, mostly dogs and cats, and sometimes sick or wounded wildlife are kept and rehabilitated. While no-kill shelters exist, it is sometimes policy to euthanize sick animals, and any animal that is not claimed quickly enough by a previous or new owner. In Europe, of 30 countries included in a survey, all but five (Austria[1], Czech Republic,[2] Germany, Greece, and Italy) permitted the killing of healthy stray dogs.[3] Critics believe the new term "animal shelter" is generally a euphemism for the older term "pound". The word "pound" had its origins in the animal pounds of agricultural communities, where stray livestock would be penned or impounded until claimed by their owners.
