The 18th of January this year was the coldest day of the season. Though it had been raining continuously since the 16lh, yet it was on the 18th, that we experienced the heaviest rainfall. The cold increased to almost unbearable extent. Every blow of wind sent shivers in our body. The heaters in our rooms were unable to warm us. Our woollies could not keep away the cold from our bodies.

The sky was heavily overcast with dark clouds and the rain had been lashing the ground with full fury. It was impossible to go out. All streets and roads wore a deserted look and small streams of rainwater were flowing down the mountainous roads.

That day our milkman did not turn up at our house and we were afraid of going out to buy fresh milk from the bazar. Consequently we had to fall back upon powdered milk. Tea or coffee taken many times during the day afforded little comfort and we continued shivering even amidst the warmest atmosphere in our rooms.

Dear dad,

             How are you? Hope this letter finds you in the best of health and happiness. Yesterday it rained after a long time. Everyone was very happy. I was playing outside with the other kids of the neighborhood when it started raining. We love to play in the rain. So we had a lot of fun running in the rain.

             Then one of the kid suggested that we make paper boats and put in the small pool made by the rain water, in one corner of the compound. We put our paper boats and watched them swim in the water. We were fully drenched by the time we returned to our dorms.

             We quickly changed into dry clothes and went and sat near the windows in our dorms. There we talked with each other. We put our hands out of the window and let the drops of rain fall on it. We enjoyed the cool breeze and watched the water gushing on the streets outside.

             How is the weather in your place? I am coming back home because my college gave some holiday for my class. Convey my love and regards to everyone at home.
