Last week we celebrated Pongal over here and I simply couldn’t wait to tell you how beautiful and spiritual the entire celebration was.

It was a four day celebration, the first day was the bhogi festival where people observed the Bhogi mantalu around a bonfire.

I hope you can join us the next time we come here.

Dear Friend,

Hello! How are you? I am fine and am writing to you to tell you how I celebrated Pongal . As you know it is a harvest festival. Celebrated with great fervor in the southern parts of India, it reflects the happiness and delight of the farmer on reaping a ripened harvest.

It is a symbol of prosperity, as is the tradition of celebrating all festivals, this one also is associated with delicacies. Sweetened rice popularly known as payasam, made with jaggery is a main delicacy. Other dishes are also made. The whole of Southern India celebrates this festival irrespective of caste and class. Hope next time I celebrate it, you are at my place participating in the celebrations.
