Answer:

If the egg os is not fertilized , it lives for one day and is then expelled. This sets in motion what is called menstrual. Menstrual cycle is a series of cyclic changes that occur in the reproductive system of human females with periodicity of about 28 days.Every month the uterus prepares itself to receive the fertilized egg. Its lining becomes thick and spongy for nourishing the foetus if fertilization would take place. In the absence of fertilization, the lining breaks down slowly and comes out of vagina along with mucus and blood. The discharge of blood, mucus and broken pieces of endometrial lining is called menstruation. It lasts for 3-5 days. Menstrual cycle begins with puberty. The first menstruation is called menarche. It stops between age of 45-50 years. Stoppage of menstruation permanently is called menopause. The cycle also stops temporarily during pregnancy.
