The history of humanity can be summarized, in a simple way, in the permanent search for happiness. Worries, anxiety, sadness, hatred, are obstacles on that path to fullness.
Who does not aspire to feel fulfilled? From its origins, the human being has tried hard to find that way.
The problem, or rather, suffering arises when what is considered necessary to achieve that state of fullness is not achieved.
Not all people think alike about what makes them happy.
Some are happy when they have a successful career, others when they have a person at their side. And others are content in solitude.
Undoubtedly, this is a very subjective concept.
Aristotle related the attainment of happiness understood as a supreme good. In one of his texts, he expressed "good, which must be sought only by itself, is more definitive than that sought in view of another good, and good that should never be sought in view of another good, is more definitive That these goods which are sought at once by themselves and because of this superior good, in a word, the perfect, the definitive, the complete, is what is eternally desirable in itself, and which is never in view of An object other than him "
There is a constant struggle for the human being to achieve this state of supreme good. However, sometimes it becomes difficult to divide what one does motivated to reach that state of fullness or if it is pure egoism.
Happiness and selfishness do not go hand in hand. They contrast.
Happiness, a steady state or a future goal?
A frequent debate is whether, happiness is a constant state, or whether it should be understood as future, as a goal or goal.
If we ask a young man, for example, what makes him happy, maybe he will tell us that he would like to finish his career, get a job, have a family. That whole set, will make you happy.
Is that really true? It is normal for every person to have desires and aspirations. But, to what extent is it indispensable to be happy?
Admitting this theory, however, implies that, as long as these goals are not achieved, the person must therefore resign himself to being unhappy. Which does not make much sense. To say that to be happy one thing or someone is needed exclusively, is to enslave the concept of happiness.
In various religions, for example, in Buddhism, it is considered that the cause of human suffering is excessive attachment or desire to have or possess. This possession can focus on material objects as well as on people.
