Keeping the spirit of International Yoga Day alive all across the world, our school organized Yoga Sessions for the students on 21st June 2016. Notwithstanding the fact that the school was observing summer vacation, a total of 500 students took part in the session. The students were educated on the importance of Yoga. They were explained that yoga helps in maintaining not only physical and mental health but also a healthy social life. The students were taught various Aasanas starting with warming up and stretching followed by the series of Padmasana, Paschimottasans, Pawan Muktasana, Vajrasana, Dhanurasana, Chakrasana, Sarvangasana, Halasana, Bhujangasana, and ending with Shavasana. Since its inception in the year 2015, June 21st is celebrated as The International Day of Yoga all over the world. This idea was proposed by our Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi. He said, “Yoga is an invaluable gift of India’s ancient tradition. It embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfillment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well-being. It is not about exercise but to discover the sense of oneness with yourself, the world and the nature. By changing our lifestyle and creating consciousness, it can help in well being.”
International Yoga Day was celebrated by the students and teachers at Indira National School with great enthusiasm. Students of grade VII and VIII demonstrated various asanas followed by Omkar chanting. Warm up exercises were taken and all the students performed sitting and standing asanas, importance of these were explained simultaneously. The celebration concluded with synchronized recitation of shlokas and speech by our Principal. He encouraged students to practice regular yoga to remain fit and improve concentration.
Regular practice of yoga will surely help our students achieve a better life, physically, mentally and spiritually as well.
Hope this helps
