The year 2014 has many specialities. We may call it the year of science. It is the International Year of Astronomy. Today rapid developments are taking place in the field of Science and Technology. New discoveries and findings are brought out by scientists all over the world. New discoveries and inventions help man in many ways. Even though there are some bad sides, there are many good sides. Nothing is cent percent perfect. There is no perfect invention having only merits. We should always try to minimize the negative aspects.
The science exhibition in our school was on 10th September. This time topic was “Science and Technology for Modern Development”. The budding scientists of our school presented many creative ideas as exhibits. We were able to see young Faradays, Newtons and Edisons among them. The Exhibits were creative and attractive and some were marvellous.
The exhibition was inaugurated by Dr. K.V.Promod, HOD of Computer Application, CUSAT, Kochi. He told about the success of Edison’s experiment in making the filament of the bulb. He appreciated the greenery of Rajagiri campus. He told that he felt the coolness when he entered the campus. He told that it is greener than the Cochin University’s surroundings.
The exhibits included eco-friendly houses, electromagnetic cranes, anti-gravity device, intelligent street light [switches on when sunlight goes], sensor etc. Everything was wonderful. There were still models, working models, and projects. These provided a feast to our eyes. Students from classes III to XII saw the exhibits. Such exhibitions have to be encouraged because students get an opportunity to present their ideas. New ideas grow in the minds of children. If they cannot present or express them it is of no use. So exhibitions are opportunities where ideas will begin to bloom for the development of the world.
