NEW DELHI, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- At least seven people were killed and two dozen others injured, some of them critically, after the bus had an accident in eastern Indian state of Bihar, police said Tuesday.
The accident took place Monday night in Patna, the capital city of Bihar.
"In a tragic road accident that took place here at Kandap village last night, seven members of a marriage party were killed and 24 others injured after the bus carrying them overturned," a senior police official posted in Patna said.
According to the police, the bus overturned after its driver lost control over it and fell into a roadside ditch.
Following the accident, locals and police teams rushed to the spot and took the injured to Nalanda Medical College and Hospital (NMCH) for treatment.
Following the accident, the driver escaped and agitated locals set the bus ablaze.
The police have registered a case and ordered investigations to ascertain the cause behind the accident.

Two school students were killed in head-on collision between a school bus and a truck. The accident took place at about 7:00 AM. Three occupants of the school bus received major injuries and were shifted to a nearby hospital by an ambulance. Local residents rushed to the site for rescue the victims. The road remain closed for over two hours as the vehicles has to be towed away from the middle of the road. According to the hospital sources the conditions of 3 are critical while all others were released after first aid. The deceased persons were identified as Rahul Sharma (11) and Himan Kumar (13) and were in the school bus. The police have established the cause of the accident as mechanical failure of the truck. The truck developed brake failure and went out of control hitting the school bus.
Meanwhile, the government has assured a relief of Rs. 2,00,000 each to the families of the deceased persons and Rs. 50,000 to each of the injured persons. He also conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
