The Government of India has identied 8

High Priority Districts in Karnataka, which are

lagging behind in terms of health indicators

and other development indicators: These are

Bagalkot, Bellary, Bijapur, Gadag, Gulbarga,

Koppal, Raichur and Yadgir. Efforts in

maternal and child health are being focused

mainly on these 8 high priority districts, with

t h e i m p l e m e n t a t i o n o f R M N C H + A

programme.

RMNCH+A is a comprehensive strategy

adopted by NRHM, based on lifecycle

approach for improving maternal and child

health outcomes. RMNCH+A stands for

Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child and

Adolescent Health. The Plus is included to

bring focus on adolescence as an important

stage of life where key interventions should

be made and also means that services in the

homes and community should be linked to

those provided in health facilities, at primary,

secondary and tertiary level with adequate

linkage for referral both ways.
