Answer: Elections when talking in general is about electing someone as a representative. This word is not only used in politics but also with refrence to other arenas and felids. Even in schools and colleges we have elections. So it depends on which kind of election is being referred. An election is a formal group decision-making process by which a population chooses an individual to hold public office. It is usually used in Democratic nations. Elections have been the usual mechanism by which modern representative democracy has operated since the 17th century. Elections may fill offices in the legislature, sometimes in the executive and judiciary, and for regional and local government. This process is also used in many other private and business organizations, from clubs to voluntary associations and corporations. Election is the fact of electing, or being elected. To elect means "to select or make a decision". While talking in refrence to India then India is a country, divided in states and union territories, with a parliamentary system governed under the Constitution of India, which defines the power distribution among the federal government and the states.
