The introduction of HYV seeds and the increase use of fertilizer and irrigation are collectively known as the green revolution.
Its merits is there was a large increase in the production of wheat. Farmers now had greater amounts of surplus wheat to sell in the markets.
Its demerit is- in many areas green revolution is associated with the loss of soil fertility due to increased use of chemical fertilizers.
