Air layering is a method used for vegetative propagation. It is used in plants having thick branches that cannot be bent easily. the stem is gashed or half cut with a sterilized knife and the moss is wrapped around the cut. This moss is then damped with water and the area is covered with a polythene flim. Adventitious roots grow from the portion on the stem covered by moss. Then it is separated from the parent plant and is grown separately.
